Feijoa is an evergreen shrub or small tree that can reach up to 5 meters in height, featuring grey-green leaves with a white underside. It produces small, edible white or pink flowers with striking red stamens, followed by egg-shaped fruits with dull green skin and creamy flesh. The fruit, which has a taste reminiscent of pineapple or guava, drops from the tree when ripe and can be enjoyed raw, poached, or made into jams, chutneys, or pastes like quince paste. These trees thrive in productive gardens, work well as ornamental features, can be pruned into hedges, and are suitable for growing in large containers; they are also drought-tolerant once mature. Native to the cooler highlands of Brazil, Uruguay, and northern Argentina, feijoas are ideal for temperate and cold climates and are often referred to as 'pineapple guava.'
